How I achieve a natural glow
By Roshanne Dorsett
Tbh my skincare routine is pretty simple, I double cleanse in the morning using The Glowcery's Blue Dew Fruit Enzyme Cleanser and either Glossier's Milky Jelly Cleanser or Cervae's Foam Cleanser depending on how my skin feels. After cleansing to damp skin I apply a homemade rosewater toner, but I don't just apply it I press/pat the toner into my skin why? Well, full transparency I don't know the science, but I a tip from Charlotte Cho Founder of Korean skincare brand Then I Met You and author of 'The Little Book of Skincare' mentions that patting or pressing products into your skin instead of rubbing causes less friction and tugging on the skin which in the long run can lead to premature wrinkles. So there you have it. Fact or fiction who knows.
After toner, in the AM I apply a vitamin C brighten serum my favourite is La Roche Posay's Pure Vitamin C10 Serum. A recommendation by Dr Ewoma CEO of SKNDOCTOR, this active has made a noticeable difference to the texture and tone of my skin. Since introducing it into my routine, old acne scars have faded, my skin feels softer, and my overall skin tone looks balanced. I apply a few drops of this to my face and neck then it's onto my moisturiser. I used Dr Jart's cermadin cream before researching and discovering their products are sold in mainland China which requires animal testing and so I have started using Byoma's Moisturizing Gel Cream, it's early days but I love the texture, not so thick it feels heavy but light enough so that the formula absorbs nicely into my skin, without that annoying film.
The next layer in this proverbial skincare sandwich is a nourishing face oil, one that locks in moisture, softens skin and ofc gives skin that natural glow, or in this case #theglowceryglow. The product I reach for every time is The Glowcery's cult product Clean Greens Superfood Serum, yes I'm biased because I made it, but the seventy-five and counting, 5* reviews it has received back my bias all the way. It. Is. Amazing. Packed with potent, plant-based ingredients from omega-rich oils including broccoli, avocado and green tea oils, this nourishing oil sinks in instantly. It works to soothe acne breakouts, and keeps my skin balanced and moisturised.
Phew, nearly there. The penultimate step is SPF and despite the Sun in the UK making infrequent appearances, I wear SPF daily. Finding the right SPF has been a series of trial and error, I've experienced white cast, grey skin and extremely oily skin from brands I won't mention, but on the brighter side of things my favourite melanin-friendly SPFs brands are La Roche Posay, Bondi Sands (affordable prices too), and Green People.
Lastly, two times a week I'll exfoliate my lips with Coconut Crumble Superfood Lip Scrub, the coconut sugar gently smooths and exfoliates any dead skin, whilst the natural coconut oil hydrates and softens. Then I'll slater on a healthy layer of Sweet Orange Superfood Lip Balm. Out of all the products I use Sweet Orange the most and yes I panic when I cannot find it in my bag. I mean it is amazing.
